I work collaboratively with clients to individualize therapy based upon each person’s unique needs. In doing so, I draw from a broad array of therapeutic approaches that include mindfulness practices, relational cultural therapy, and trauma treatment. Above all, I believe in respect for the innate wisdom that each client possesses and brings to the therapeutic process.

FAQs

The first session is called an assessment where I’ll listen to what brought you to therapy, gather a brief history, and begin discussing approaches to treatment. The assessment can last between 1 and 1.5 hours. Subsequent sessions are typically 50 minutes. My style is interactive so that I will help guide you through the process while also being an active listener.

Good question! The results of therapy can depend on numerous factors, including the therapist’s approach, the chemistry between the client and therapist, and the client’s commitment to change. The approach needs to “feel right” to you. If you are not feeling like you are receiving help within the first few sessions, it is important to re-evaluate the direction of therapy. Also, it is important to feel respected and comfortable with your therapist. Finally, change can be scary. Perhaps it was not the right time in your life before to commit to change. It may be worth exploring your fears around change and what has been holding you back.

My goal is to help you feel better as soon as possible. Research indicates that about 75% of clients show measurable improvement after about 6 months (26 visits) and 85% after 12 months (52 visits). That said, therapy can also be much briefer depending on your particular needs and goals.

Insurances are required by law to provide mental health benefits, but the amount of coverage varies widely. Please see Fees for more information.

You can contact me by phone at (541) 953-4969. Often  I am with clients but I do check my voicemail several times a day Monday through Friday.
